To all Saltwater Fishermen-
 
You have probably heard something already about the National Saltwater Angler Registry, but I wanted to take this chance to remind you of this new law and encourage you to make sure you're registered before you fish if you're required to do so.
 
Basically if you're fishing in Federal waters or anadromous fish like shad, stripers and river herring-or even if you MIGHT CATCH an anadromous fish- you HAVE to register before you put your line in the water UNLESS one for the following applies to:

 

 
Since the Federal registration went into effect, numerous states have revised their saltwater fishing laws. If you're not sure whether your state is exempt, DON'T GUESS. Visit www.countmyfish.noaa.gov for a current listing. Two other important things to know are

 
     The fact is that as of January 1st, registration is the law. While NOAA is currently focusing more on education than enforcement, you can face stiff penalties for not registering. So whether you supported registration or opposed it, the fact is that it's the law and we'll all benefit if we all participate.
 
DON'T DELAY REGISTER TODAY AND HAVE A GREAT SUMMER.
 
Registration cards can also be picked up in the Marina Office or the Public Bathrooms on the Marina Premises located on the bulk-head side when marina office is closed.

Municipal Marina Recognized by Freeholders

The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders presented a certificate to the Shark River Municipal Marina at their workshop meeting on July 9th.

The recognition was presented  "...in support of the N.J. Clean Marina Program which encourages marinas and boatyards in the state to adopt practices which will protect
and enhance our marine and coastal environment. On this occasion the Board of Freeholders is pleased to be honoring the Shark River Municipal Marina, Neptune, which has been certified as a Clean Marina in the Monmouth County by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection."

Township Committeeman Kevin McMillan received the Certificate on behalf of the Township from Freeholder John D'Amico.
