Neptune Day Festivities

A rock climbing wall, trackless train, an obstacle course, a giant slide, balloon animals, cold beverages, sausage & pepper sandwiches, BBQ, craft and food vendors, and more.  It's all part of Neptune Day, Saturday, September 11, 2010.  Throw in DJ music and local organizations and vendors and it's a day filled with fun!

Neptune Day runs on Saturday, September 11, from 12 noon until 5pm on Neptune Boulevard, in front of the Municipal Building.  The rain date is Sunday, September 12.

Many Neptune Day familiar favorites are slated-inflatables, pony rides, petting zoo, tent shows, magic acts, local and municipal organizations, vendors with crafts, jewelry, and treasures, bike raffles, and you never know what may be new highlights for this year.  DJ music will be provided by Unforgettable DJ's, and the popular wall climb and bungee bounce will return this year.  Although the event itself is free, there will be items for sale, including crafts, food, and beverages.

Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Brookdale Community College, Imperial Health Care, Neptune Rehab, and The Breeze Radio 107.1 / 99.7 as event sponsors, have helped make the activities possible.

For more information about Neptune Day, or for an application for a table or space, please contact Neptune Recreation at 732-869-1202.

Scenes from last year's Neptune Day:

Neptune Multi-Sports Camp a Hit

Fifteen sports in one week!  Every sports lovers' dream!  Despite the dreary weather, fifteen active youngsters gathered at Sunshine Village Fields in Neptune last week for an exciting one week multi sports camp.  The five-day full day program was offered through Neptune Township Recreation in conjunction with US Sports Institute, for the fourth year.

Energized by super fun Coaches Laura and Sarah, the children were introduced to baseball, basketball, bocce, capture the flag, cricket, flag football, hand ball, hockey, lacrosse, kickball, newcombe, net ball, parachute games, pillo polo, scoop, skatch, soccer, softball, touch rugby, and ultimate Frisbee.  "Are we ready?" was responded to with shouts of, "We were born ready, Coach!"

Each day brought four new sports and the opportunity for the participants to cheer for their favorites.  Day five was celebrated with a recap of the most popular sports, and some crazy water time.  What adventures this week held for our young sportsters!

Be sure to look for this program again next summer!

Neptune Township Sailors Place Third in Mayor's Trophy Regatta

Neptune Township junior sailors placed third in the recent Mayor's Trophy Regatta, showing off what they learned in the three-week sailing instruction program.  The windy weather and rough water added a challenge to the day's events.

With representation from Avon, Belmar, Bradley Beach, Neptune City, Neptune Township, and Wall, the Friends of the Belmar Harbor and the respective Recreation Directors coordinated a program-ending Mayors' Cup Regatta between the towns.  Each town offered six to eight residents, ages 10-16, a sponsorship to participate in the three-week instructional sailing program, and the Mayor's Cup Regatta afforded some friendly competition to highlight the skills they learned during the program.

The sailors raced in heats in one, two, and three person optimist sailboats, Bics, and JYs around a predetermined course.  Colored t-shirts help identify sailors as part of each town's team.

Sailing for Neptune were:  Kenneth Alexander, Bailey Antman, Talula Dechev, Danielle Fields, Scott Fields, Lance Patterson, Jake Shotwell, and Trevor McKeon.

Congratulations to Wall, who will keep the cup, until next year's race...
