Shark River

"A Healthy Place to Raise Children Amidst the Fresh Air and Pines" was the advertising slogan for Shark River Hills when it opened as a summer resort development in 1923, and the same can be said for this community today. Nestled in the hilly peninsula overlooking 3 1/2 miles of scenic waterfront "The Hills" as it is popularly known, offers the comfortable familiarity of small town living within an hour's commute of New York City.

With the Shark River Golf Course in its backyard and the Shark River Marina and Yacht Club at its waterline, Shark River Hills is a sportsman's paradise. Bathing, fishing, crabbing, boating, and birding are all available here, as well as several neighborhood parks and a nature trail which highlights historic, environmental, and scenic stops. Over 500 property owners in The Hills belong to the Shark River Hills Property Owners Association (founded in 1929) which represents residents' interests, sponsors candidates debates, and supports environmental and beautification projects there. The Shark River Hills First Aid Squad serves Shark River Hills residents since its founding in 1970, and good food can still be found at the "Cracker Barrel" store, a landmark at the foot of Tuckers Bridge since 1925 in Shark River Hills.
