8th Annual Jeans and Jewels Fun-Raiser
Midtown Urban Renaissance Corporation - MURC sponsored their 8th Annual Jeans & Jewels Holiday “Fun” Raiser dinner dance on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Hamilton Banquet Hall in Neptune.
The sold out crowd enjoyed food catered by Michael Jones and staff of Latin & Soul and music provided by DJs Faze “Derek Alston”. MC for the evening was Nairobi Nelson. Honored was 2013 NHS graduate, William “Buddy” Gray who recently graduated from Military Basic Training in South Carolina. Gail Oliver, VP of MURC, was Chairperson for the event and was ably assisted by her committee, Nate Cave and Wesley and Gladys Walker. MURC President, Dianna Harris, introduced special guests and gave an overview of the year’s accomplishments.
A moment of silence was dedicated to the memory of Jim Terrell, former Asst Superintendent of Schools and an active Trustee of MURC.
Young male adults who participated in the summer program, “Youth Corp Urban Gateway Program” attended the dinner dance. Their mentors, Darby Brooks and Sylvester (Hank) Griffin were recognized. The evening ended with dancing…and dancing they did!
