NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP COPS VS. KIDS
Softball Fundraiser
The Neptune Township Municipal Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse would like to extend a huge thank you to all who helped make the eighth annual Cops vs. Kids softball game on June 17, 2013 such a success! The game was fun, and the laughs were plenty—even when the game got rained (no, poured) out!
It was a great event—from pre-event sponsorship to the last at bat. The players decided on a seven inning game, and the score was 17-2, in favor of the Cops when the downpour started! Perhaps the kids would have made a great comeback in that last inning that didn’t happen! The coveted “Prevention Cup” trophy, will remain housed at the Police Department until next year’s game when the Kids will try (again) to steal it away!
The Kids’ team (coached by Stephanie Sprayberry) included: Lois Walton, Rich Tyrrell, Jasmine Hawkins, Lucas Walton, Sara Stern, Anthony Hill, Kevin Welsh, Allison Moen, Brooke Tartis, Hunter Daly, Chrisina Blue, Natalie Rodriguez, George Barreto, and Jamie Ferguson.
The Cops’ team (coached by Mike Zarro) included: Chris Sibole, Chris McKinley, Les Borges, Shaun Hubbard, Louis Berardi, Jason Rademacher, Bryan Maher, Tyrell Thompson, Marcus Neal, John Jackson, Doug Ford, and Mike Zarro.
Special thanks go out to: the Neptune Township Committee and the Neptune Board of Education, the players, the coaches, Robert Walzer & Vinnie Sabatino who umpired the game, Coach Sprayberry, event volunteers including Rachel and Michael Zarro, Adam Oppegaard, Cathy Crelin, and Sherry Sotnikoff, Bruno’s who fed the players after the game, all those who came out to support the game, and Neptune Police Sgt. Mike Zarro, who coordinated the Cops and secured sponsorships. Thanks also to Mayor Eric Houghtaling and Police Commissioner Randy Bishop, and Special Projects Coordinator Roberta Grace for their support at the game.
Event sponsors included: Theo’s Demolition & Construction Clean-Up, Impact Auto Body, Automobile Transportation Services, Bruno’s Italian Deli, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Robert Walzer, Jr. from the Central Sports Association, Neptune Township Police PBA #74, Neptune Twp FOP #19, Nagels, Allied Fire & Safety, Popeyes, Chick-fil-A, Midtown Urban Renaissance Corporation (MURC), the Neptune Municipal Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, the Neptune Board of Ed, and the Neptune Recreation Department.
Thanks to everyone who supported the game, and in turn, helps us spread our prevention message to the community. As many of the kids players are underclassmen, be sure to catch our next Cops vs. Kids fundraiser!
Sincerely, Dawn Thompson, Coordinator 732-869-1202
