Neptune Township Sailors Take Trophy in Mayor's Trophy Regatta
Neptune Township junior sailors clinched first place in the Mayor’s Trophy Regatta on Friday, August
24, showing off what they learned in the two-week sailing instruction program. In the eight years that
Neptune Township sailors have been part of the program, this is the first group to bring home the
coveted Mayor’s Cup!
With representation from Avon, Belmar, Bradley Beach, Neptune City, Neptune Township, and Wall,
the Friends of the Belmar Harbor and the respective Recreation Directors coordinated a program-
ending Mayors’ Cup Regatta between the towns. Each town offered six residents, ages 10-16,
a sponsorship to participate in the three-week instructional sailing program, and the Mayor’s Cup
Regatta afforded some friendly competition to highlight the skills they learned during the program.
The sailors raced in several heats in one-person Opti’s, one-person BIC’s, and three-person JY’s
around a predetermined course. Colored t-shirts help identify sailors as part of each town’s team.
Thanks to Cindy Nelson, Oliver Brothers Realty, who sponsored the Neptune Township sailors’ shirts!
Sailing for Neptune were: Breana Rogers, Sean Flebbe, Ian Flebbe, Lauren Edwards, Nicholas
Patterson, and Ethan Bodine.
Congratulations to our sailors, and be sure to stop by the Municipal Building to check out the Mayor’s
Trophy Cup! Until next year’s race…
