Neptune Township Junior Sailors Place Third in Mayor's Trophy Regatta

Neptune Township junior sailors placed third in the recent Mayor's Trophy Regatta, showing off what they learned in the three-week sailing instruction program.  The windy weather and rough water added a challenge to the day's events. 

With representation from Avon, Belmar, Bradley Beach, Neptune City, Neptune Township, and Wall, the Friends of the Belmar Harbor and the respective Recreation Directors coordinated a program-ending Mayors' Cup Regatta between the towns.  Each town offered six to eight residents, ages 10-16, a sponsorship to participate in the three-week instructional sailing program, and the Mayor's Cup Regatta afforded some friendly competition to highlight the skills they learned during the program. 

The sailors raced in heats in one, two, and three person optimist sailboats, Bics, and JYs around a predetermined course.  Colored t-shirts help identify sailors as part of each town's team. 

Sailing for Neptune were:  Kenneth Alexander, Bailey Antman, Talula Dechev, Danielle Fields, Scott Fields, Lance Patterson, Jake Shotwell, and Trevor McKeon.

Congratulations to Wall, who will keep the cup, until next year's race...
